Okay, boomer.
The wildly famous phrase that has dominated popular culture and memes in this day and age. The phrase that Republican congressman Matt Gaetz has used to address White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway over the topic of marijuana legalization.
Gaetz claims that the legalization of marijuana is "largely generational," believing that his millennial self has a very different perspective on the "healthy" legalization of the drug from Conway's "boomer approach" to this topic. He believes that the prohibition of the drug has led to the impairment of research and health science. However, his use of this phrase largely detracts from his argument because he was using this phrase to target his opponent on this issue, which does not look so great due to the fact that many voters or other government officials may be in the "boomer" age range. This means, realistically, that the level of support that he would get on his argument would probably not be as high as if he were to use solid evidence to support his argument. However, "the House Judiciary Committee voted 24-10 to pass a bill out of committee that would decriminalize marijuana on the federal level."
This phrase implies ignorance or lack of knowledge about current topics by older generations because they are older, and can be known as "out-of-touch." Gaetz's use of this phrase also caused him to gain a lot of popularity and attention from younger generations, which probably impacted the voting results as well.

I agree that using the phrase may not be the most politically sound idea because it's inconsiderate to those who are boomers. However, I also feel that an important part of politics is being able to garner support for your issue, no matter what the cost. President Trump along with other politicians use certain catchphrases like MAGA because they know that it resonates with their supporters, and it is something that people can easily remember/recognize. In other words, you have to play the game sometimes in order to gain success in the long term when it comes to politics.
